We provide legal advice and representation to individuals facing criminal allegations and proceedings. We understand that being investigated for or charged with a criminal offence can be stressful and may have serious consequences for your personal life, employment and future.

Our privately funded criminal defence services may include:

  • Advice and representation in connection with criminal investigations.
  • Police station advice and representation.
  • Advice and representation in Magistrates’ Court proceedings.
  • Defence against allegations of assault, including common assault and assault by beating.
  • Defence against theft and other criminal allegations.
  • Advice on criminal procedure, evidence and available defence options.
  • Preparation of cases, review of evidence and representation at court hearings.
  • Advice and representation in road traffic matters.

The services available will depend on the nature of the allegation, the stage of the proceedings and the individual circumstances of your case.

Road Traffic Offences:

We advise and assist individuals facing road traffic allegations. Depending on the circumstances, these may include:

  • Driving without due care and attention.
  • Careless or dangerous driving.
  • Driving without insurance.
  • Driving whilst disqualified.
  • Speeding offences.
  • Failure to provide driver information or other relevant information when legally required.
  • Other motoring offences dealt with in the Magistrates’ Court.

We can advise you on the nature of the allegation, the evidence, the applicable law, possible penalties and the options available to you. Where appropriate, we can represent you in court proceedings.

Our Fees

Our fees for privately funded criminal defence and road traffic matters are generally charged on an hourly basis.

Hourly rates: £143–£319 plus VAT per hour.

The applicable hourly rate will depend on the seniority and experience of the fee earner handling your case, the nature of the work and the complexity of the matter.

The total cost will depend on factors including:

  • The seriousness and complexity of the allegation.
  • The volume of evidence and documentation requiring review.
  • The time required for legal advice, preparation and correspondence.
  • The number and length of court hearings.
  • Whether expert evidence or counsel is required.
  • Any additional work arising during the proceedings.

Disbursements and third-party expenses, including counsel’s fees, expert fees and other necessary expenses, may be additional to your fees.

Before accepting instructions, we will explain the proposed charging arrangements and provide information about the likely costs based on the information available. If appropriate, we will provide an estimate or agree a fixed fee for a defined piece of work. We will keep you informed of significant changes to the anticipated costs as your matter progresses.

Road Traffic Matters: Single-Hearing Cases:

For privately funded advice and representation at the Magistrates’ Court for a summary-only road traffic offence dealt with at a single hearing, the fee will depend on the circumstances of the case and the work required.

Our hourly rates are £143–£319 plus VAT. The total fee will depend on the time required to consider the evidence, advise you, prepare your case and represent you at the hearing.

Where a case requires additional hearings, further preparation or other work, additional fees may apply. Any estimate will identify the work covered and explain any anticipated additional charges.
